In response to the evolving challenges in community health centers, the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers (OACHC) has addressed workforce issues by targeting burnout among primary care providers and staff. This roadmap outlines an evidence-based solution, the MindBodyStrong training program developed by the Ohio State University College of Nursing. Recognizing provider engagement and burnout as significant contributors to workforce challenges, OACHC implemented the program, resulting in increased engagement and decreased feelings of overextension or ineffectiveness among providers.
MindBodyStrong is a seven-week resiliency training program designed to equip community health center staff with skills to build resilience, reduce stress, and enhance overall wellness. The roadmap emphasizes addressing burnout before implementing other innovative solutions, recognizing that introducing new initiatives without addressing burnout can burden already stressed staff. By proactively mitigating burnout, community health centers can create an environment conducive to positive change and better prepare their workforce to handle the demands of the healthcare landscape. The roadmap serves as a starting point for health centers looking to implement a burnout-targeted program.
