Congress must reach an agreement on Community Health Center funding before the March 8th deadline. This is a critical time for decisions being made on health center funding. NACHC sent a letter to congressional leadership urging both chambers pass a final bipartisan bill that extends and increases funding at or above the levels supported by the House in the “Lower Costs, More Transparency Act,” which passed 320-71 with broad bipartisan support. This comes after reporting that Democrats are pushing for at least these funding levels in a short-term health package before March 8th. If successful, this would include a 10% increase to the Community Health Center Fund – the first increase in over 5 years.
Take action: We need all health center advocates to contact their Members of Congress about the vital importance of securing maximum funding for Community Health Centers before the March 8th deadline. Take action with the Call-in Campaign and/or Email Campaign to Congress!
Why is personalized correspondence to Congress so important? In December 2023, Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) asked congressional staff this question: “If your Member/Senator has not already arrived at a firm decision on an issue, how much influence might the following advocacy strategies directed to their office have on their decision?” CMF found that about 90% of congressional staff reported personalized messages (postal and email) has “some” or “a lot” of influence.
