BETHESDA, MD— The 2023 Community Health Institute (CHI) and EXPO, hosted by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), takes place next week (August 27-29). The hybrid conference–which draws more than 2,000 health center leaders, policy experts, consumers, and corporate partners–comes as Community Health Centers mark an historic record of providing care for more patients than ever at 31.5 million. A bright spot in the nation’s public health system, health centers have been providing affordable care service to underserved people of all ages in small towns and big cities for more than five decades. They save lives and tax dollars, generating $24 billion a year in cost-savings by diverting the poor and chronically ill from costly sick care at hospitals.
A key issue of focus for the NACHC conference is the urgent need for Congress to take action and pass bipartisan legislation before a major portion of health center funding expires on September 30th. Attendees will also dialogue on strategies to rebuild the primary care workforce after COVID-19 and protecting access to low-cost prescription drugs.
Keynote speakers include NACHC’s new President and CEO Kyu Rhee, MD, MPP, who brings to the leadership post a wealth of private sector experience, public service at the federal level, and service on the front lines of community health as a physician.
Also: Erica Keswin, workplace strategist, podcast host and author of two books, Bring Your Human to Work: Ten Sure-Fire Ways to Design a Workplace That is Good for People, Great for Business, and Just Might Change the World and Rituals Roadmap: The Human Way to Transform Everyday Routines Into Workplace Magic; Heather McGhee, educator and author of the New York Times bestseller, The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together; and D.J. Eagle Bear Vanas, thought leader, celebrated speaker, and author, The Tiny Warrior.
The NACHC CHI also features an exhibition hall with over 150 vendors from the health care industry. A full listing of conference events and speakers can be accessed here.
