Bethesda, MD – President Biden has signed the spending package passed by Congress that includes over $1.8 billion in discretionary funding for Community Health Centers. The funding builds on the bipartisan $4.4 billion prospective mandatory funding package recently signed into law.
“We are deeply appreciative of the leadership in Congress in securing passage of this essential funding. It comes at a critical time as health centers face significant challenges that include workforce shortages, reductions in Medicaid enrollment and a worsening environment for access to affordable 340B medications.
Dr. Kyu Rhee, MD, MPP, President and CEO of the National Association of Community Health Centers.
The federal investment will support high-quality, comprehensive, affordable primary care for communities in need, strengthen our community-based, transdisciplinary primary care teams, save taxpayer dollars, and reduce overall health care costs. We look forward to working with Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to build on this funding later this year.”
NACHC is grateful that Democratic and Republican Members of Congress nationwide came together in a show of support for health centers and the 31.5 million patients they serve as the nation’s largest primary care network. The passage of the spending package comes as the Congressional Budget Office finds that effective primary and preventive care investments at health centers make medical care more efficient and lower overall medical care costs.
