Medicaid Redetermination Overview
Due to recent changes in federal policy requiring people with Medicaid coverage to “redetermine” their eligibility, millions of people are losing their coverage. Nearly half of Community Health Center patients rely on Medicaid coverage.

Background on Medicaid Redetermination
Since April 1, 2023, states have been able to return to normal Medicaid renewal related procedures and begin disenrolling individuals who do not complete a redetermination or are found ineligible for Medicaid coverage (commonly referred to as “Medicaid unwinding”).
It has been estimated that upwards of 15 million Medicaid beneficiaries could lose coverage either due to ineligibility for the program (due to income or other eligibility factors) or administrative/procedural disenrollments (i.e., old contact information, unable to submit information by state deadlines, or other administrative reasons).

To assist in coordination and information sharing NACHC has an online forum for health centers, state primary care associations, and health center-controlled network staff to come together and stay up to date on the Medicaid redetermination processes taking place across the country. Workgroup
NACHC has developed a thought group of health center and primary care association staff to help guide its work throughout the Medicaid unwinding. The Medicaid redetermination workgroup serves as a technical advisor on policy and communications-related developments throughout Medicaid redeterminations. The membership consists of 13 members (8 health center members and 5 primary care association members).
